“So Many Things Seem Filled With the Intent” tells the story of a woman who files for divorce against her family’s wishes and ends up rethinking her role as a mother and a woman.

The new feature film by screenwriter and director Ana Johann began shooting last Sunday (the 23rd) in Curitiba and the Campos Gerais region. Filming is scheduled to continue through the end of December. 

Produced and distributed by GP7 Cinema, the film is the latest feature-length fiction project from producers Andréia Kaláboa and Guto Pasko. 

The drama explores the story of Camila, a 40-year-old woman who files for divorce after discovering her husband’s infidelity. Her decision forces her to confront her own family, while also leading her to rethink her role in the world. 

Camila is played by actress Carol Roehrig. Her husband, Johnny, is portrayed by Eduardo Pelizzari, while the couple’s daughter, Elvira, is played by actress Luiza Rabelo. Rounding out the predominantly female cast are established names from the theater and film industries in Paraná and beyond, such as Juliane Arguello, Anna Lú Maciel, Ester Dias, Marrara Mara, and Raquel Rizzo. 

“So Many Things Contain the Accident” is the second fiction feature film directed by Ana Johann, following her debut with “A Mesma Parte de um Homem,” a 2021 production that screened at festivals such as the 24th Tiradentes Film Festival, Cabíria Festival, the 25th Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival, and the Riff Awards in Rome. In 2012, she directed the feature-length documentary “Um Filme para Dirceu.” 

In both her two fiction films and her novel “História para matar a mulher boa” (published by Editora Nós), a semifinalist for the Oceanos Award, Ana Johann seeks to challenge the cultural norms that have been carved out over the centuries regarding women’s bodies and the role of motherhood. It’s no surprise, then, that the protagonists of her stories are women who must free themselves from the scrutiny and oppression of male gazes in order to pursue their own desires and defy the expectations of their families and themselves. 

As director and screenwriter of “Tantas coisas contêm em si o acidente,” Ana Johann, in partnership with GP7 Cinema, prioritized assembling a team led by women across all departments. Andréia Kaláboa serves as Executive Producer, Heloisa Passos as Director of Photography, Bea Gerolin as Art Director, and Juliana Caimi as Production Manager. Kelly Bill and Débora Zanatta round out the team as First Assistant Director and Assistant Director, respectively.

The film will explore the country music scene in rural Paraná

Ana Johann points out that, although “Tantas coisas contêm em si o acidente” was conceived from the outset as a drama, there will be room to explore other genres and settings. Part of the story takes place in rural Paraná and will explore the country music scene, set against rural landscapes featuring horses. Filming of these scenes is taking place at Colônia Witmarsum, in the municipality of Palmeira.

At times, the feature film also engages with the fantastical, in a poetic exploration that encompasses both the film’s aesthetics and its narrative. According to director and screenwriter Ana Johann, the intention is to work with cinematic language in a self-reflective way, making the film reflect on itself and on the nature of the representation of reality. “The roles I question in this film have been widely seen and reiterated in mainstream cinema. Therefore, I focus on language to twist meanings and challenge these canons. Language is being used not only as a way to tell the story, but to highlight oppression as well as deviation and freedom,” explains Johann.

Partnership with GP7 Cinema Spans Two Decades

The professional and personal partnership between GP7 Cinema and screenwriter and director Ana Johann began back in 2005. Over the past two decades, Johann and Andréia Kaláboa co-wrote the short film “Parabéns a Você,” directed by Kaláboa, which screened at festivals such as Cine Ceará and the Brasília Film Festival; they have also been involved in TV series projects developed by the production company.

Currently, Johann and Kaláboa are also writing the fiction feature film “Yulia and the Christmas Birthday” (working title), which, like “Parabéns a Você,” explores the experiences of a young girl in a rural setting, in a Slavic community—a setting familiar to both artists. 

“Both Ana and I share similar backgrounds: we were both born in the interior of Paraná and grew up in rural communities of Slavic immigrants. I am of Ukrainian descent, and she is connected to the Polish community (although she is of German descent). Our shared roots strengthen our creative bond,” emphasizes producer Andréia Kaláboa.

The feature film was made possible by the Paulo Gustavo Law in Paraná, through the Call for Proposals to Support Audiovisual Production Projects and Screenplay Development for Audiovisual Works issued by the State Secretariat of Culture. “So Many Things Contain the Accident” is the 66th production by GP7 Cinema and its sixth feature-length fiction film. In 2024, the Curitiba-based production company released “Entrelinhas,” directed by Guto Pasko, and is currently working on post-production for “Relicário” (directed by Guto Pasko) and “Sereis uma só Carne” (directed by Andréia Kaláboa, in a co-production with Tabebuia Audiovisual and Armada Rental).

In early 2026, GP7 Cinema will also premiere the fictional TV movie “Meu Avô Stanislau” on TV Globo and shoot the feature film “Resistência,” an international co-production with the Dominican Republic and France. In the second half of the year, it will film the second season of the fictional TV series “Contracapa”
