GP7 Cinema continues to expand its presence in the international market with the feature-length fiction film *Resistência* (*Cuando Cae La Lluvia*), a co-production between Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and France, produced in partnership with YPR Films and Novoprod Cinema.

The project was selected in the BRDE/FSA Public Call – International Film Co-production 2023, one of the main mechanisms for the internationalization of the Brazilian audiovisual sector, and was subsequently selected by the Ibermedia Program in its 2024 co-production call for proposals, strengthening its financing structure and its presence in the Ibero-American film market.

Conceived by Dominican filmmaker Yanillys Pérez, who wrote the screenplay and will direct, *Resistência* will be filmed entirely in Spanish in the Dominican Republic. This YPR Films-led production also received support from FONPROCINE, the Dominican national film promotion fund focused on the development and production of audiovisual works, as well as from the Île-de-France fund in Paris.

Even before reaching the production phase, the project had already garnered international recognition at some of the world’s leading film development labs, markets, and platforms.

Initially, the project participated in programs associated with the Sundance Film Festival in 2021, strengthening its presence in key international development circles, and subsequently took part in PUENTES EAVE in 2022, an audiovisual training workshop held in the European Union.

Also in 2022, *Resistência* participated in the Locarno Film Festival Open Doors in Switzerland, where it received the World Cinema Fund Audience Strategy Award, an international prize focused on strategies for global development and distribution.

In 2024, the feature film was selected for MAFIZ—Málaga Festival Industry Zone, in Málaga, where it won the Cántico Producciones Award, which includes the creation of an original soundtrack for the project.

That same year, *Resistência* was chosen as one of only ten projects worldwide to join La Fabrique Cinéma de Cannes, an international initiative by the Institut Français aimed at promoting new filmmakers from emerging countries during the Cannes Film Festival.

The solid international track record built even during the development phase opens up concrete prospects for a future world premiere at some of the major festivals on the international circuit once the feature film is completed.

Synopsis

In a remote region of the Dominican Republic, Resistência, a 12-year-old girl, must care for her two younger sisters on her own while her mother works in a larimar mine deep in the heart of the tropical jungle. Amid the harsh realities of survival, social violence, and fractured family ties, the young girl embarks on a journey of coming of age marked by ancestral spirituality, abandonment, and the discovery of her own inner strength—symbolically guided by the presence of a guardian jaguar.

According to director Yanillys Pérez: “Resistance aims to shed light on the reality of families like mine, highlighting the burdens children bear and the strength of single mothers. It is a story about responsibility, sacrifice, and the enduring nature of family bonds in the face of adversity.”
