RELICÁRIO: Guto Pasko's new feature film is in post-production

Following the sudden death of their father, Theodoro and Sheila (siblings) return to the old mansion where they were born in southern Brazil and must confront old traumas and secrets about their family’s dark past. 
 

Building on this premise and with a narrative driven by suspense—bordering on horror—the film tells the story of a dysfunctional family of farmers who settled in the countryside of Paraná.


The characters in “RELICÁRIO”, each in their own way, contribute to this dysfunctional atmosphere, where dialogue and affection were long ago replaced by distance and resentment.

Each carries their own fears and prejudices toward the other family members, and these feelings will be laid bare, leading to unpredictable consequences. 


On another front, the fictional story intertwines with the history of the Contestado War, a conflict that took place in Brazil between 1912 and 1916, causing approximately 10,000 deaths—a subject largely unknown to Brazilian society.


The conflict took place in a region disputed by the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina and was driven by the population’s political and social dissatisfaction, as well as by a religious element: messianism. 


The family’s ancestors took part in the conflict—or at least that is what Theodoro and Sheila were led to believe by their parents, Olívia and Cândido.

With a screenplay by Rafael Waltrick, “Relicário” marks director Guto Pasko’s second foray into psychological horror. 

Filming took place in February and March 2024 in the municipalities of Ribeirão Claro and Campo do Tenente, in the state’s interior. In Ribeirão Claro, the main location was the Monte Bello Ranch, and in Campo do Tenente, it was the Casarão Villa Anna Cultural Center.


The editing of the feature film, handled by Lucas Cesário Pereira, took place between May and August 2024, but funding was still lacking for post-production, visual effects (VFX), sound design, the soundtrack, accessibility, credits, and final prints.


The production/filming phase was funded by two sources: Public Call for Proposals No. 001/2019 – Call for Proposals for the Production and Development of Audiovisual Works by the Paraná Department of Culture (SEEC) in partnership with ANCINE, using funds from the Regional Arrangements Line of the Audiovisual Sector Fund (FSA); and the BRDE | FSA 2022 Film Production Call for Proposals, Regional category.


For post-production, the production company GP7 Cinema secured approval for a “Budget Supplement” project under the PROFICE Program —Paraná’s State Law for Cultural Incentives—and now, with the funds disbursed, the feature film is moving into the finalization stage, with the goal of being completed by December 15, 2025. 


“Relicário” is part of Pasko’s “Psychological Horror” trilogy, which began with “Entrelinhas” and will conclude with the feature film “Trianon,” scheduled to be filmed in 2026.


The film is produced by Andréia Kaláboa, with Amarildo Martins serving as executive producer and Arnon Nogueira as production manager.


Rô Melink serves as Art Director and João Castelo Branco as Director of Photography. Sound editing is by Kiko Ferraz, and post-production coordination is by Rafael Lopes of NITS.LAB.

The film is scheduled to premiere on the festival circuit in the first half of 2026, followed by a commercial release in theaters. The film will be distributed by ELO STUDIOS.
